Greg Wood writes...

I will add my thanks to Russ, Fiona and Rob.
We appreciated their knowledge and also the way they shared it with us. At this point (Mid October) we have definitely made progress and are looking to have some consensus at our next open meeting on the 24th. We should have more to report after that.

With so much excellent information (and discussion) at our last meeting it would great to re-visit some of this in some sort of presentation (and/or maybe some mp3's - spoken presentation) that could be shared on the website?!

As Maryanne has shared there are many wonderful dreams and goals that have come from many in our group - we just need to find our way forward in cooperatively achieving these together.

Thanks for your comments Maryanne.

Yours' is a good idea regarding attracting families and others undergoing housing stress to the proposed community garden. This could be difficult as those families have pressing priorities, however I think it a positive move that demonstrates the social responsibility that characterises so many of those involved in community gardening. Such ideas extend the relevance of community gardening and of the whole community food system milieu of which it is a part.

Please keep us in the loop as to progress.

Oh, before I forget... there will be a Sydney Community Garden Network gathering down here, probably November, to which mountains folk are invited. Maybe you can tell those attending about your project to start a garden.

Dear folks,
I would like to thank you all: Russ, Fiona and Rob for taking the time to visit and comment on a few of our possible sites for a community garden in the mid mountains of The Blue Mountains. You all brought experience and knowledge and gave us confidence and valuable information to continue our endeavours.

The visual presentation was valuable because it summarised the necessary processes, provided photos of successful and productive community gardens.

We're having our steering committee meeting tonight and will be taking further steps.

A final thought: last night I watched ABC1's Four Corners on the subject of homelessness. I drove home the point that many singles and families who are without homes due to a shortage of rental properties and are suffering in motel temporary accommodation in Katoomba or caravan parks... would benefit from community assitance and we believe the Mid Mountains Community Garden would provide this.
