A Tasmanian journey…

EXPERIENCE and learning are the core purpose of travel and that is what happened when we met up with Hobart community gardener and sustainabiity educator, Nel Smit. Nel, you see, is one of the mainstays of the large and productive Taroona Neighbourhood Garden located close to the Derwent estuary in Hobart’s southern suburbs.

nelNel is also a state contact person for the Australian Cty Farms & Community Garden Network and is on the team planning the March 2014 Food For Thought community garden conference in Hobart.

Set among parkland with an outlook to Hobart’s hills, the Taroona garden is a big patch of herbs and veges surrounded by berry fruits and fruit trees, many of them espalierd along the fence.
